Anne Kmetyko is a Montréal-based writer-director making waves with her fresh storytelling and cinematic style.

She is currently developing her first feature film, Entre Deux, alongside a web series and two short films. Anne brings vibrant energy and sharp emotional intelligence to everything she directs.

Her short films showcase her eye for intimate storytelling and visual precision. Cat in the Pan earned two nominations at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, while her documentary Etched in Skin—an intimate portrait of tattoo artists—screened in competition at Cinequest Film Festival.

Her latest short, If…Then…Now… (Si seulement… peut-être), has screened at 15 international festivals, winning a Bronze Remi Award at WorldFest Houston and playing at the San Francisco Short Film Festival. In 2024, she directed an episode of Stories of Hope and Strength, a documentary series amplifying the voices of Indigenous women, girls, and LGBTQ2+ individuals.

Anne’s work bursts with authenticity and visual flair. Her unconventional path to directing began in radio and A&R, followed by 15 years as a photographer, before transitioning into film and television production. This diverse background gives her a deep understanding of character, visual storytelling, and the rhythms that make stories resonate.

Her style is all about intimate moments and unspoken truths, blending bold visuals with emotional depth. She is a fearless creator who values creative risk, emotional honesty, and collaboration with people who bring passion and heart.

(And yes, she has a thing for cheeseburgers—but her real obsession lies in capturing those unforgettable moments on screen.)

Anne holds a Master’s in Film Studies from Université de Montréal, a BFA in Photography from Toronto Metropolitan University, and is a graduate of INIS’s Television Directing program. Her work has been supported by leading programs, including the Reykjavik Talent Lab (2023), Stowe Story Labs, the Canadian Academy’s Screenwriters Pitch Program (2024), the Stowe Features Campus (2024–25), and the Nantucket Screenwriters Sessions (2025).
